Classical Thai Cooking Classes
Bring pleasure and flavor to your cooking with hands-on instruction that is delightful and easy to replicate at home! Chef Phant opens the class with a presentation on aspects of Thai food. Topics covered include: How to use Thai ingredients, herbs, spices, sauces, and Asian vegetables; Understanding flavors and textures unique to Thai cooking; Thai Curries- the basics; Decrypting Thai cooking equipment; Presentation of finished dishes in the classic Thai style.
Class continues with a review of the important concepts of Thai food, including both the culinary, as well as the medicinal aspects. Specific steps and sequences involved in Thai cooking are then carefully described and demonstrated, including techniques of ingredient preparation. The cooking session starts by awakening and stimulating the palate. Participants will sample each ingredient individually, learning to taste the flavors unique to Thai cuisine. Chef Phant first prepares each dish in front of the class, allowing participants to smell, taste and intuitively begin to understand the nature of each dish. The class then breaks into small groups, allowing each group to immediately duplicate the dishes demonstrated. Chef Phant closely assists each group, reviewing cooking techniques, use of flavors, and how to finish up the dish as well as give critique and feedback.
Course tuition includes all of the food used and a copy of Chef Phant’s delightful cookbook “Classical & Traditional Home-Style Thai Cooking”. The menu contains food important for a well-balanced and healthy diet which includes local ingredients, organic, and gluten.
